India vs Australia Preview Nearly 12 months ago, Aaron Finch’s Australia travelled to India and took on a side many expected to go all the way in the ICC Cricket World Cup later in the year. Neither side would go on to reach the final in the World Cup, but Australia’s 3-2 series win marked a key moment in what has proved a major form swing. Australia’s ODI fortunes had been dire heading into the series, but the upset series win fell from the heavens at a time the Aussies needed it most. Critically, the 3-2 series win came after India took a 2-0 lead. From there, the series was flipped and won by an Australian side sans Steve Smith and David Warner nearly a year on from the Newlands scandal. It was a first series victory in seven attempts dating back to January 2017 for Australia, and a first ODI series defeat for India on home soil since 2015. Much has changed since, and while an away tour for Australia during a summer seems obscure to many, the pursuit of victory remains all the same for Finch’s side after Tim Paine’s Test team swept aside Pakistan and New Zealand with relative ease. Regardless, with the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah all keen to wipe away the nightmares of letting a 2-0 series lead slip last year, this Indian side presents another key challenge for Australia.
